Gwyneth Paltrow: My Grandmother "Was a Real C*nt!"

Gwyneth Paltrow: My Grandmother "Was a Real C*nt!"

Yikes! If you still had any ideas in your head that Gwyneth Paltrow was some sort of demure little flower, we're about to ruin that vision. The actress appeared on E!'s Chelsea Lately Monday night, where she had some choice words for her own grandmother!

After both Paltrow and host Chelsea Handler realized that they both called their grandmothers "Mutti" (the German word for "Mommy"), the ladies commiserated on the rocky relationships they had with these women.

"My Mutti was a real b*tch," Handler, 36, told the actress.

But, Paltrow one-upped the comedian but coming back even stronger.

"My Mutti was a real c*nt!" she said. "She just hated my guts, basically. She tried to poison my mother against me, but it didn't work because I have a great mother (Blythe Danner, 68). She was just tough."

Whoa, Gwyneth! That's not the kind of a language you'd expect out of this Oscar winner, is it? But the actress went on to explain why she thinks her granny acted the way she did.

"You look back and you think she must not have been very happy and she must have had a lot of pain, because she was mean as hell," the actress added.

Fortunately the nastiness wasn't passed down, and Paltrow says that her mom is an amazing grandmother to her two kids (with husband Chris Martin), Apple, 6, and Moses, 5. Still, Danner didn't necessarily want the stigma of an old-lady grandma.

"She was adamant that she did not want to be called grandma. And who can blame her? My mom's hot and she didn't want to be called grandma," Paltrow laughed. "She decided she was going to be called 'Woof.' So she kept trying to make the 'Woof' thing stick. It's even her email address."

But Paltrow's daughter had her own moniker in mind for her grandma.

"Apple just wasn't having it and one day she was just like, 'Lalo!' And that was it," Paltrow said. "She's Lalo."
